Yes, it will work. No matter what CD-key you use or CD - it’s all the same.

You can’t do that. That goes against the EULA, even if you are able to make it work, it will only work for 30 day, after whcih it will be asking for a new product key that is not in use by another computer.
If you lost the cd for the other computer, all you have to do is contact the manufacture of that computer. And they can send you the cd’s for your computer, to install the operating system and drivers. I did that for my sisters hp laptop and hp sent her the cds at no charge.

You would need to use the key which is unique to the cd you are installing. Since it has been activated on one machine, when it goes to Microsoft fro activation it will fail. This will also turn off its’ existing activation. This means the new install will lock out after a short time, and the disk will cease to be any use even to recover the original machine.

Format drive and load the system you want

The XP (recovery) disk that came with the laptop will work on another laptop only if the hardware is identical because it’s a personalised version (drivers and settings specific to that hardware already in and all the rest out) with the key already in. What you need is an generic retail XP install disk.

That should work. It isn’t the installation CD that’s important, it the KEY. I do it all the time when reinstalling for my customers.
