How come I am not receiving a connection when attempting to network 2 computers through my D-Link router?

I have my ethernet cable connected from my cable modem to the WAN outlet on the back of the d-link router. The light flickered but then went out. I do have power to the router. I also attempted to connect both computers in lines 1 and 2 from the back of the computers to the router, and these lights are not turning on either. Why is it that I cannot receive connection? My computer receives connection find on it’s own when connected to the cable modem without any attempt to network.

I think that’s how you would spell it.
My problem is I know how to say it not how to spell it and an uncle said that was it but I’m not sure.

as far as me, pronouncing it goes I would say ‘gen’ the same way you’d say the ‘gen’ in gendarme in french and then just ‘ya’
….that’s even more confusing, can anyone shed any light at all?

I plan to work up to more but I want to make the biggest difference at first. Should I focus most on calories, fat, fiber, carbs, or some other aspect of my diet? Also, please explain why you suggest a specific aspect over another.
